While On The Music Theme.....

Billboard's all-time No 1 song on the single charts has been Chubby Checker’s 1960s hit the Twist.

That is until this week.

When it has finally, after 60 years, been dethroned by the song........

Blinding Lights.

Huh?

That is the new #1 all-time song on Billboard's singles chart?

Huh?

Blinding Lights, by Abel Tesfaye.  Otherwise known as The Weeknd.

I've got nothing against The Weeknd.  He's a good Canadian boy and we share the same hometown, Toronto.

Now I'm not a huge music buff, but you think I might have heard of the new, all-time #1 song in whole freakin' world.

Well let's see what all the fuss is about. Click on The Weeknd's smiling face to find out.

Catchy, but may take me a few listens to start humming it though.

But apparently I don't really matter, as this already has over 500 million views. But what the heck is going on with music these days?

[Ed. note: Okay boomer, don't embarrass yourself any more than you have these last three days.]

And in case you're interested, the Beatles continue to defend their No 1 ranking on Billboard‘s Greatest of All-Time Hot 100 Artists chart with a record 20 No 1 singles on the weekly Hot 100, among their 34 top 10s.

Madonna ranks second with 38 Hot 100 top 10s.

Madonna? Second?!

I don't understand toda.....uhhh.....never mind......

What Will Today Bring...?

So yesterday we featured the smooth song stylings of Cardi B and the #1 song of 2020, WAP.

Now, if the Urban Cowboy listened to anything other than country on the radio, I might have heard this song before.

But a song you won't be hearing is the date rape song, Baby It's Cold Outside.

It was essentially banned last year.

But Cardi B can sing about her WAP and all the crazy antics it gets up to, and the critics - and apparently several of her gentlemen friends - will just eat it up.

And while doing the usual extensive research for this post that the crack Arnotti Thoughts team always does, came up with an interesting comparison....

Great minds....?

[And I swear as my birth name is Urban Cowboy that I did not see this before doing this post.]

One Of Today's "Newer Songs"

So yesterday we featured a Lawrence Welk clip of a young couple singing a "newer song" that I'm sure neither Lawrence Welk or the producer or the singers had any idea what it was about.

Let's fast  forward 50 years to see what boundaries today's newer songs push.

Let's look at the song National Public Radio (NPR) deemed the best song of 2020.

Turns out it is the Cardi B song WAP, featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

So has anything changed in 50 years?  Let's see.

Since this is a family blog, we won't paly the video but just post the lyrics.

And in case you're wondering what WAP means, wonder no longer...

Wow.  So this was the best song of 2020.  That's several tokes over the line.

So empowering for all of today's young girls.

Has anything changed in 50 years?

Oh for the simpler times......

Oh For The Simpler Times.....

This is a clip from the Lawrence Welk show, where an attractive couple sings one of the "newer songs".

Click on their picture to enjoy (although you may have to sit through a commercial).

Stay tuned tomorrow as we explore another attractive couple singing one of today's "newer songs".
