ProPublica published an analysis they did of IRS information on wealthy Americans. And what these wealthy Americans did is all legal.

Here are some examples:

• Warren Buffet: 
• between 2014 & 2018 reported a wealth growth of 24B$.  
• And paid 24M$ in federal tax.  
• That's a rate of 0.1%
• Jeff Bezos: very similar; wealth growth 99B$, taxes paid 1.0B$.
• Elon Musk: very similar; wealth growth 14B$, taxes paid 0.5B$.

The point of this story is not to make you feel bad.  The part of the story that should make you feel bad is:

The IRS shoots the messenger.
