Ever wonder how they get that last bit of dirt out of a construction project?All summer/fall at the condo project across the street, I've been watching the excavators down five floors scoop out truckload after truckload of dirt. They built a sloped dirt pathway for those big trucks to get in and out of the pit.
But how do they get that sloped pathway out? And that last bit of dirt right at the bottom, five stories down?
With one of these long necked goose fellows.
I've been watching it sit right at the edge of the pit. And the bucket goes out then down. Waaaay down.
It's only a small bucket, too. Any larger and that thing would topple all the way down.
Bucket after bucket, truck after truck, day after day.
So now you know.....

Do you think he's looking through a camera while he's doing the work? I guess it depends on who's doing the work?
I never thought of that. He can't see the bottom. Didn't see anyone guiding him either. Maybe he does it by feel. Too late now....he's gone.

My first thought was why doesn't he dig out the ramp from higher up the ramp but maybe that's not safe.
...Normally, the crane is used to take the heavy equipment out of the hole and they upload any remaining fill. Or sometimes they use squirrels to spread around the remaining dirt or sometimes they hire snoopy old retired guys who complain about Health & Safety issues to attract the squirrels into the hole. Hmmmm...guess you quit wondering how now you old fart!
