Mike & Tod - Day 19

After a night at The Relax Inn and waking, well, relaxed, time to find out where they really were and check out the local environs.

Not much pedalling today, but a lot of bridge crossing, as the lads found themselves in New Orleans.

And essentially under water.

Massive banks of turbines are necessary to keep the city dry.

Massive sets of piping and pumps also required to keep Mother Nature at bay.

And equally as hard to keep Human Nature at bay...

As our Country Mice found themselves in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

I think these guys put the Bourbon in Bourbon St.

Actually, I think they took out more than put in, if anyone's counting.

And they didn't seem to be the only ones taking more than they gave.

Here a crashed truck sits abandoned.

Or, someone on their way to Bourbon Streeet thought "Close enough."

The smart money would have been on parking the bikes and taking the trolley.

Of course, smart-money and country-mice are seldom mentioned in the same breath.

So our guys spent the better part of the day cycling where they shouldn't. Because although some parts of New Orleans are fine, most parts, as they found out, aren't;

"What are you doing here?"
"Do you know where you are?"
"You need to pedal yourselves out of here, right away."

Which they did.

Why is frying pan into the fire running through my head?

I'm guessing there might be a late start to Day 20....

Cheers, y'all!

... Been there done that. Much of it is "po" as "po" could be. Katrina killed the city and most of the hope. I hope you had time to visit Margaritaville in the French quarter.
