"Do As I Say, Not As I Do"

So by now everybody's heard about Will Smith smacking Chris Rock at the Oscars for a joke he didn't like.

(Wouldn't that be great, somebody says something you don't like and you can haul off and smack him.)

And as Rock said it was just a joke, Smith, now back in his front row seat [Academy note to self: seat him near the back next time] said "Keep my wife's name out of your f'ing mouth".  In fact he said it twice.

And much to the Academy's continuing chagrin,  45 minutes later Smith is back on stage accepting the best actor statuette.

But the most hypocritical part - and Hollywood is full of hypocrites - was Smith's acceptance speech, when he was in tears saying he's used to taking abuse and being disrespected, saying "I want to be a vessel for love".

I almost spit out my avocado toast.

I know people have short attention spans these days, but did Smith think we can't remember back 45 minutes?

And these are the people who are constantly lecturing us about how to live our lives.

Usually during the Oscars.

The whole thing just makes you sad. Well, at least melancholy.

Sigh.. yeah... while I do reside in Chris Rock's camp, they were both wrong. Chris normally makes fun of what you do, not what you have (Jada's condition - providing he knew about it)... and Will used his hands vs. his words.

Stephen Colbert said 'wow, Chris can take a punch, while Will trained for months as Muhammad Ali, and has a hand the size of a flank steak."

I was also impressed that Chris carried on with the show.

Well there is some question as to whether Rock even knew she had this condition. And Smith was laughing after the joke, only turning serious after his wife gave him a harsh look. Good think Ricky Gervais wasn't hosting!
