While On The Music Theme.....

Billboard's all-time No 1 song on the single charts has been Chubby Checker’s 1960s hit the Twist.

That is until this week.

When it has finally, after 60 years, been dethroned by the song........

Blinding Lights.

Huh?

That is the new #1 all-time song on Billboard's singles chart?

Huh?

Blinding Lights, by Abel Tesfaye.  Otherwise known as The Weeknd.

I've got nothing against The Weeknd.  He's a good Canadian boy and we share the same hometown, Toronto.

Now I'm not a huge music buff, but you think I might have heard of the new, all-time #1 song in whole freakin' world.

Well let's see what all the fuss is about. Click on The Weeknd's smiling face to find out.

Catchy, but may take me a few listens to start humming it though.

But apparently I don't really matter, as this already has over 500 million views. But what the heck is going on with music these days?

[Ed. note: Okay boomer, don't embarrass yourself any more than you have these last three days.]

And in case you're interested, the Beatles continue to defend their No 1 ranking on Billboard‘s Greatest of All-Time Hot 100 Artists chart with a record 20 No 1 singles on the weekly Hot 100, among their 34 top 10s.

Madonna ranks second with 38 Hot 100 top 10s.

Madonna? Second?!

I don't understand toda.....uhhh.....never mind......

I think there's something wrong with today's young music listeners. Also, there is way more access to so called music these days when everyone has a cell phone. Back in the day, not everyone had a radio or could afford to buy a record. The Beatles and Chubby Checker etal didn't have that advantage where anyone on the planet could click on their songs on their phones. And, also, again, success in the music world is now rated on number of views, most of which don't cost the viewer any money, in the old days, success was measured by sales of records.

There's something wrong with me?

(The things we get upset about as we get older...too much time on our hands!!)

Yeah, Billboard's ranking used to be based on record sales and radio play. Now it includes digital sales and online streaming. Chubby didn't stand a chance....

Northern Dreamer - nothing wrong with unless you're lumping yourself in the "Today's young music listeners' group"
