Mike & Tod - Day 20

After a forecasted late start after a late night in The French Quarter, the boys were set to embark on the main part of their mission - riding the Mississippi.

Everywhere they went, though, constant reminders of the ever present flood danger in these parts.

This is part of the Mississippi Spillway.

Apparently, they can open this wall in various places to manage an overflowing river.

Not sure I'd want to be on the other side.

But, still time for a little celebration - 2,000 kilometre on this trip.

Way to go, guys.

And, to no one's surprize for anyone who's been following their adventures, another small office break.

Now this is starting to look like the Mississippi we've read about.

Probably a few Riverboat gamblers on board there....

Staying close to the Evacuation Route.

Always a good idea.

Now, the boys either ran out of time or luck, as they could find no inn to take them in. Not even a Relax Inn.

So the "20" dot is a bit of an estimation - they camped somewhere on the banks of the Mississippi.

Which might have been a bit more pleasant if they hadn't found this guy near by.

He was dade, but I suspect some of his friends might still be in the area.

Now that's southern fine living picture of the Ol' Mississip that we want to leave with.

Tomorrow they'll make tracks for Baton Rouge.

Hi jim. Just getting caught up to you on Arnott Thoughts. Awesome man. Somehow you manage tocapture the moment with humour. We're biking hard, havin fun and livin' large best wecan. Not all days are shining as bright as they appear on your blog...for example last night inspite of the latest intelligence reports and best planning techniques we wound up with nowhere to stay. We swung our hammocks on the banks of the Mississippi, just south of Baton Rouge, and listened to the sounds of all the bayou critters moving about throughout the night. Inspirational, and that special no shower for 2day feeling at the veritable crack of dawn.Anyway these events and even the long days are memory makers for us andyou articlulate them so well. We'll like to say hello to our friends back home and especially to our new American friends who have helped and encouraged us along the trail. Some folks have asked about other trips we've done and you can refer them to Arnotti Thoughts, Nov 2009 and Apr 2011. We just celebrated 2000 km on this trip yesterday and hope to log in another couple'a thou before we get home, via Toronto with luck. Anyway hoping the folks following your blog are appreciating your wit and efforts as much as we are. Best of times my friend. Your pals, Mike and Tod

I'm guessing you can't swim in the Mississippi to get rid of that 2 day feeling...LOL. Way to go boys!
