Who's Zooming Who? - Part Deux

Who to believe?

Canada's Health Minister is saying her department's review of the Pfizer vaccine should be completed soon.

Sounds good.....

However, the guy tasked with actually rolling it out to everyone.....

....Chief of Defence Staff Jonathan Vance...has - unfortunately - a different perspective.

So who to believe?

Well I believe this guy.  Because politicians lie through their teeth and generally have no idea about all the details - of almost any issue.  And this is the guy who has to actually deliver the goods.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that more than half of Canadians "could be" vaccinated by September 2021 “if all goes to plan.”

Now General Vance is saying the country could “potentially” be vaccinated by the end of next year.

Whoo boy!

According to this article that is a full six months behind the US.  We haven't even started yet and already we're six months behind.

And the phrases in quotation marks worry me;  "could be", "if all goes to plan" and "potentially".

Interesting that the US also tapped a top military man, General Gustave F. Perna, to roll out the vaccine as part of their operation Warp Speed program.

But they started back in March!

General Perna said they will be ready to start inoculating Americans "with 24 hours" of the FDA approval - which is expected as early as Dec 10th.

What is obviously missing from his statement is "if all goes to plan" and "potentially".

Canada, on the other hand could potentially start by middle of 2021, if all goes to plan.

Unfortunately in some things, the distance between the two countries is much wider than this.

Sometimes that is good.  This time, not so much...

oh, UC, Vance is not the general charged with the responsibility to be the vaccine czar. That would be Major General Dany Fortin.

Oh dear - hopefully everything is going to go per plan in Canada, otherwise not sure when I'll see my family again. 2022??!! That's really not going to work out according to my plan :)

Okay, I guess he is the hands-on guy. But the ultimate buck stops with Vance. It's tough keeping everything straight down here.....

You're comparing apples with bananas.

How so, Dave? Canada procured more projected vaccine supply (per capita) than any country in the world. We did a good job there, so I think we should be equally as the US capable in planning to roll this out.

Maybe it would be better to continue this discussion over one of your sangria pitchers next summer...

Right on UC, and I know the perfect spot!

I do, too. And I think we are writing a song about it.

It seems to me the gist of your argument is that the US will be able to start vaccinations by mid December (if they have an approved vaccine) whereas Canada is expecting to have vaccine approval by late December and won't have the nation vaccinated by the end of the year...apples and bananas. It's now the 5th, the only country to have granted a vaccine approval is the UK. I see no estimate for how long it will take the US to vaccinate their nation and everything I've seen indicates that Canada will start vaccinations as soon as we receive the vaccines, estimated early 2012. Your post is much ado about nothing really.
